Zen Getaway at The Gaige House

I was kindly gifted a 2-night stay at the Gaige House in Glen Ellen, CA in one of their ryokan-style garden suites and can’t wait to visit again. It’s easily one of my most favorite places to getaway in California. Here are a few highlights below from our stay.

The Gaige House is a thoughtfully appointed property tucked away along a quiet winding street in a small town within Sonoma County. Pulling up to the property, we felt immediately greeted by an overwhelming sense of peace and relaxation. The beautiful fall foliage frames the main Gaige House, which features a sun deck, dining room for breakfast and wine + cheese hour, and a game room. We looked forward to having their wine and cheese every day from 5-6 pm. Other amenities we enjoyed included the meditation alcove, and the heated (and shaded) pool and jacuzzi.

The ryokan-inspired guest suites sit adjacent to the main house, each framed by foliage and beautiful landscaping along a private walkway that made it feel like we had our own private cottage in the woods. We stayed in the Garden Suite, which features a deep granite soaking tube and private zen garden atrium. I loved opening the windows to hear the gentle trickle of the atrium fountain while taking a hot bath. We also enjoyed nestling against the fireplace, making hot tea every morning in the cast iron kettle, and hearing the birds chirp on the patio. I think one of the best parts about our stay was that the place is so quiet and private, you can really notice and appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds the property, and meditate in your own thoughts.

For dining, we really enjoyed the complimentary daily breakfast menu that the Gaige House offered — fresh orange juice, coffee, yogurt, fresh fruits, and a hot daily breakfast special (we had a breakfast sandwiches on one day and an omelet the other). For lunch and dinner, we opted to just wander down the main street in Glen Ellen to visit the Glen Ellen Star, The Fig Cafe, and Les Pascals Patisserie et Boulangerie (their ham & cheese croissants!). All of this was easily within walking distance.

We didn’t expect to be so blown away by our stay, but we truly were. Although this stay was sponsored, we are already planning our next trip back!
